Salam jamee'an to all the amazing readers of my blog! Insha'Allah you are all doing well!! Ok so today I wanted to profess my love for..... makeup!! lol It's true, I just love collecting all kinds of makeup. Sometimes I get lured in by the beautiful packaging, but usually it's because of the actual makeup product's color or style that I end up buying it. It's just fun to experiment with different color palettes. I don't actually wear any of these styles out unless I'm going to a wedding or engagement party or some other special occasion.
Anyhow, today I wanted to share with you some makeup tutorials done by one of my favorite makeup artists, Joelle Mardinian. Some fun facts about Joelle: she is of Syrian and Italian descent but she is based in Dubai where she has an her own makeover show on the MBC channel. I really like her makeup styles and think you will too! Hope you enjoy the videos!

Salam!
The smokey eye look is one of my absolute faaaaavorite looks. Depending on the colors you use and how dramatic the smokey effect you create is, you could wear it day and night! Of course, during the day, you should subdue the look a bit.
Kim Kardashian is definitely known to create one of the best smokey eyes I've seen. Here are some pictures of the many smokey eye looks she has created, followed by a video of Kim K. and her makeup artist showing us just how to get this sought after look. Enjoy!

Favorite Shade of Red
Salam everyone!
So, I've been looking for a red lipstick that is JUST RIGHT for quite some time now but I've been kinda picky with buying one cuz wearing red lipstick is not really my thing. I usually like to stick to light neutral colors like nudes and soft pinks. But, it's fun to try different colors and red is definitely in this season and everyone can pull it off.
So, after plenty of searching I found a really nice shade of red! I specifically wanted a very matte shade, like I don't wanna walk around with bold red lips that are also super glossy or shiny looking. So, my choice is by MAC, one of my favorite cosmetic brands, and it's called "Russian Red." MAC has a bunch of shades of red that you might like as well, but so far, this one's my favorite. "Lady Danger," also by MAC, is another really great matte shade of red but tends to look kinda orange-y sometimes. You can go to http://www.maccosmetics.com/ and check out their entire line of lipsticks and other amazing cosmetics.

When wearing bold red lips, remember not to overdue the rest of your face with blush and eyeshadow/liner, etc. cuz the red lipstick is enough and doing a full face of makeup would look kinda ridiculous. Vice versa, if you're doing up your eyes, try to stick to a more natural look for the rest of your face.

Smokey Eyes & Nude Lips
So, if you follow my blog regularly, you've probably noticed a lot of Kim Kardashian posts and that's cuz this blog has a lot to do with fashion and makeup and Masha'Allah Kim K. has amazing style and her makeup always looks great. Of course, you can always mix and match and alternate articles of your outfit to make it hijab appropriate. So, one of my favorite makeup looks is the smokey eyes and nude lips. I think it's great because it can be worn to a dressy or casual event and still look appropriate either way, it's very practical. Kim posted a link to her makeup artist, Troy Jensen's blog, where he showed us how to get the smokey eye/nude lip combo he does for Kim. From Troy's blog, here's how he got the look:
"I first prepared the skin with a moisturizer, concealer, & a liquid foundation. I set it with two shades of finishing powder for a warm natural look. I dusted a bronzer & a soft peach powder blush into the apples of the cheeks & across the forehead. I softly defined Kim’s brows with a light brown/blond eyebrow pencil and set with a brow gel. Softening the edges with a light brown shadow. I then blended a palette of gray eyeshadows across her entire eyelids, blending a touch of deep purple shadow into the crease and outer edges and a matte ivory shadow in the arch of the brow. I blended the same gray tones along the lower lash line. Then I lined the entire eye with a black eye pencil. For a dramatic touch I lined the upper eyes with a black liquid eyeliner and softened it with my eyeshadow brush. I finished by curling and coating her lashes with black mascara.
To finish this look and to get a true beige lip I first applied a touch of foundation over the entire lip and then powdered to set. Then lined the lips with a nude lip liner. Next I applied a creamy beige lipgloss over the entire lip and then applied a sheer pink shiny lip gloss just to the center of Kim’s lips.
This classic look is perfect for Fall. And like I always say “If you’re going dramatic with your eyes, Go pale on the lips.”
Also try combinations of chocolate brown eyes with a golden beige lip, a smokey plum with a beige mauve lip, charcoal black smokey eye with a pale pink lip, and a smokey navy eye with a pale peach beige lip."
This is the makeup Troy used, (click on the image for a better view):

New Mascara From MAC!
So, one of my all time favorite makeup brands, MAC, is debuting a new mascara for its Holiday/Winter 2011 collection. MAC False Lash Mascara is designed to make eyelashes appear super crazy long, giving off the illusion of false eyelashes, hence the name, lol. From MAC: "False Lashes Mascara adds dramatic volume, the rich, creamy, volumizing formula magnifies and multiplies the look of each lash, creating dramatically thick, long, curled, exaggerated lashes. The lush brush applies a deluxe dose of heavy pigment to the lashes and works in combination with the product to create incredible volume, length and density. The pigments in the formula are treated to allow for maximum colour payoff that remains true, deep, uniform and wears all day long. It’s flake- and smudge-resistant, ophthalmologist-tested and safe for contact wearers."
MAC's False Lashes Mascara will be available in the US starting December 26, 2010 and internationally starting January 11, 2011.

Smokey Eye Tips
So you all know by now that I absolutely adore the smokey eye look for special occasions. Celebrity makeup artist, Troy Jensen, is famous for doing an amazing smokey eye on Kim Kardashian, among many others, and he recently shared his 8-Step Guide to a Perfect Smokey Eye:Step 1: Use a light moisturizer and eye cream to prepare the skin. Apply primer and highlighter.
Step 2: Dab a touch of concealer under the eyes, around the mouth, and anywhere to conceal skin imperfections. Blend with a foundation brush.
Step 3: Dab a touch of highlighter at the top of the cheek bones, above the lip, and down the center of the nose. Blend well with the same foundation brush you used with the concealer. Then apply the liquid foundation across the forehead, down the jawline, and into the neck, blending with your foundation brush and making sure you blend well into the skin.
Step 4: Set with pressed powder.
Step 5: Apply powder cheek color, starting with the apples of the cheek and blending upward toward the hairline. Blend well.
Step 6: Start eyes with a well-groomed brow and using your powder eye-shadow trio, dust the light shade just below the brow and the darker shade over the entire eye lid and below the lower lash line, creating a smokey effect. Blending upward but not too cat-like. Then line entire eye with black eyeliner and blend with a sponge applicator or q-tip. Curl and coat your lashes.
Step 7: Line your lips with a neutral lip-liner, if needed, for added definition or just simply apply the pale pink lipstick to the entire lips and top off with the shimmering lip gloss.
Step 8: Nails should be black with a touch of top coat for added shine.

Scarlett Johansson's Makeup for the Tony Awards
Scarlett Johansson's makeup at the Tony Awards on Sunday was simple, really romantic and beautiful!
*I especially loved her eye makeup.*Johansson's makeup artist, Gianpaolo Ceciliato used Dolce & Gabbana's, The Makeup Line to create the look, and here's what he did:
Step 1: Ceciliato lined Scarlett’s inner and outer eye lids with Crayon Intense Eyeliner in Dahlia.
Step 2: Ceciliato blended the purple shadow from the Eyeshadow Duo in Dazzling and the pink shadow from The Eyeshadow Duo in Guilty on her eyelids and applied black mascara to her top and bottom lashes.
Step 3: For the face, Ceciliato decided to keep the makeup very minimal so that the eyes would stand out. He applied a bit of Luminous Cheek Color in Provocative on the top part of Johannson’s cheeks.
Step 4: Ceciliato applied The Classic Cream Lipstick in Nude on her lips.

Burberry Launches Makeup Line
Christopher Bailey has created Burberry's premiere line of makeup. The collection has been two years in the making and includes lipsticks, eye-shadows, foundations and powders. The collection is simple and classic, Bailey says, “The Burberry girl wears just a trace of makeup — no crazy eyes or crazy lips,” he says. “Makeup should enhance women, not just cover up what they perceive as flaws.” You can shop the collection online at the BURBERRY site or at NORDSTROM starting Monday.
